What should i plant?

Hi all,

I am from Adelaide, Australia and have a feature area that can be seen as soon as you open the front door and is one of the main hallways, so fairly prominent.
The area is about 4.2m long, 1.28m wide and 2.7m high. The area gets sun for half the day.
I have no idea what to plant in the area to add a nice feature? Please help

Annuals or perennials? Close to the front door like that we have Dahlias, nice and 'showy', and stocks, lots of good scent. Which way does it face? Does it get sun shining in? Covered it is going to need watering, and will be a bit shaded, and I guess you are going to want to get to that window to clean it from time to time, all things to consider. Maybe lily of the valley along the back, they won't mind the shade, smell great, and grow low, but they are only in flower for a bit, and tend to spread like mad.
