Another question related to this plant. Do I need to cut them off completely to the ground before winter? So that they grow better next season? Someone suggested this to me. Just wanted to confirm it. Thanks!
Rejuvenating a shrub by cutting it to the ground is an option with Spiraea, but I wouldn't necessarily do it with your shrub, which is well-shaped and full of live branches. Some may trim off the old inflorescences, though they also add some winter interest. I would remove that clump of grass growing at the base of the shrub.
