Location is southern RI, US. This weeed has taken over large stretches of the lawn, crowding out the lawn grass. Grows about 2" tall and develops a small blue flower on the end of each stem when mature. As yet unable to ID this intruder. Anyone here recognize it?

May be a form of or corn speedwell. Fairly imperviuos to 2,4-D and the usual herbicides if you teied them already. Triclopyr and one other that escapes me are used on it.

Thanks for the reply. Sprayed today with Ortho Weed-B-Gon. Did a test patch a week ago and those guys are now dead. But there is such an infestation, as seen in pic, in several places that there's likely not much grass there. At this point, late May, the timing is not the best for reseeding, might have to wait 'til fall.

It is never good enough to think you can simply remove or poison one element of a garden because The Grand Diversity has a plan for that to which you are not privy. And the harder you hit it, the harder the replacements will play.
