What is something easy a beginner can garden?

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to gardening and I'm wondering what I should garden. I'm kind of jealous of my friend's garden but she'll never give me any tips (probably because she thinks that she tells me, I'll do even better).

So yeah, I'm curious what I should garden if I'm just starting out. Thanks!

Start with what you like. Do you want flowers? Herbs to cook with? Lettuce for salad? What is your climate like? When you look at your friend's garden and the gardens where you live, what are the things that most appeal to you that you would like to have growing at home?
