I thought "That is the sort of common name that will probably belong to several species" , Looking it up I got
"dayflower, any member of the genus Commelina (family Commelinaceae), which includes about 100 species of weak-stemmed herbs of wide distribution,"
From the picture I guess it is one of them, but there were a couple of other genus called it as well
Widespread was certainly right, species from the US to Bengal and stops in between.

Its Called the Asiatic day flower because this bloomed last for only one day.Its Native plant of North America.
