Most off the shelf instruments have very limited capabilities. Moisture meters are completely useless. pH meters can give a reasonable indication. Light meters have minimum use. A brix meter has a bit of merit, but limited. An experienced gardener can generally determine soil conditions by plant growth, particularly in a typical small backyard garden.
