We just moved into a new house and in the backyard there are tons of stones/rocks which are difficult to be trashed out. I am wondering what can be done with these stones ? There are more larger stones on the other side.

I was thinking if we can use these rocks for landscaping

Tightly stack them, cover with a layer of dirt and plant a tree on it. Let the roots grow over the rocks for a few years. After the roots are well established remove the dirt from over the pile of rocks. You'll have a cool tree over rocks.

I kept thinking and I can move these scattered rocks at the corner of the my backyard next to the fence. It wil clear up the space immediately and then I can visualize how many rocks i have for the lining or growing a tree on top of it.

I have been thinking abut the pool too but I dont have enough rocks !

@Tetters It would be so costly to ship these to you ! :) Thank you for all your suggestions

There is so much you can do with those rocks! Depends on what you like and space for. I would use those as edgers for flowers, or any other plants. Make a focal point in your yard with a fountain or pond. I attached some pics I saw on pintrest.

Leave the rocks where they are. You have the bones of a truly natural woodland garden all set up for you. Now you just need to plant an array of choice shade perennials among them: Aruncus, Astilbe, Epimedium, Eriocapitella, Erythronium, Hosta, Trillium, etc, etc, etc, AND ferns, lots of ferns.

If there are that many rocks on top of the ground you may well find there are more underneath when you clear them and try to dig.

I have a friend who bought a disused granite quarry in Cornwall and has huge piles of rocks lying around. She sold lots to garden centers, then struck a deal to infill a new harbour mole at a local port.
It has not rained for ages here , but it is a misty, moist morning with condensation dripping from the cars. I was reminded of a man in Africa who had rows of rocks between his plants to catch overnight dewfall and wonder if removing them might dry out the ground, more of it would also be exposed to evaporation.

Around here, it's high desert country - shrub steppe - mostly sage brush and freakin' tumble weed. If we dig a hole to plant something, getting rid of the soil - which is mostly sand - is an issue. So I put it in the garbage over a few weeks.

If you don't want them, advertise them on Craigslist as "Free to a good home. You haul" - preferably on a Friday evening. Better yet, put a nominal amount on them, say, $5 for the lot. It's never ceases to amaze me what people will buy on Craigslist but steer clear of free stuff.

Sometimes we want to get rid of something that's not Goodwill material and my wife says put it out with the trash or take it to the dump. I put it on CL and someone snaps it up, pays for it and happily hauls if off!!! One man's trash is another man's gold (not being sexist, from my expereince women don't seem to be that way inclined). Sometimes they are falling over each other to get it! That being said, I never put anything one there that's really trash of course, that's just rude.

Weird thing about Craigslist - only once has anyone ever tried to negotiate - though that may be because I only ask reasonable prices. But if you ask too much - or too little! - it won't sell. We have even sold plants we no longer wanted on CL.
