I did a bunch of weeding at the beginning of the season trying to get the garden ready. I spent quite a bit of time trying to get the weed and the entire root so that hopefully my weeding for the rest of the season would be lessened. As I was weeding I was wondering whether the littlest of root left behind could grow into another weed? That got me thinking that if I pull a weed whose main root has let's say 8 branches, having just a little bit of each of those 8 roots left behind, I'm turning 1 weed into 8. Not sure whether that could happen or not. Regardless, I did my best at getting all the weeds out.

Unfortunately, the garden is inundated with weeds:

My wife did some investigation and said this weed is called purslane. Also, she said that often it gets into your garden via topsoils you add. It's pretty unsettling if the things I'm adding to my garden to make things better are filled with weeds. I did add some Fox Farms Ocean Forest last year. I think I also added some Miracle Grow potting soil last year or the year before.

So now I'm spending hours again trying to pull each weed and its entire root. Seems like a never ending job. And it certainly will be a never ending job if the things I add to my soil are loaded with weeds.

Thanks,
Nick

I had the same problem... I found an old fashion hand hoe helps speed up the process and grabs roots pretty well
