IS THERE ANY REALLY EFFICIENT WAY OF CONTROLLING THIS BEETLE? OUR HEDGE STINKS WHEN IT RAINS! IT'S ABOUt
T 20 FEET LONG, 7 FEET HIGH AND 30 INCHES WIDE. THE GREEN LEAVES HAVE TURNED PURPLE-BLACK AND HAVE A WHITE MILDEW . IT LOOKS SAD! DESPERATE FOR ADVICE ; CAN ANYONE HELP, PLEASE/

Sadly, the answer is not really. you can spray with various insecticides which will reduce the problem, but long term prognosis is not good. Believe me, we have been there. In the end we just dug it up and planted something else.

Viburnum Leaf Beetle (Pyrrhalta viburni) is a Leaf Beetle (Chrysomelidae, Coleoptera) native to Eurasia, and introduced into North America. This species feeds on most species of Viburnum in the Moschatel Family (Adoxaceae). However some species are deemed more susceptible than others including Viburnum dentatus, V. opulus, and V. tinus. The beetle larvae consume Viburnum leaves while the adult female beetles damage growing tips, so as to lay their eggs within the twigs. A notable symptom of Pyrrhalta viburni is the foul odor emitted from the beetle feces.
