Using water lines for indoor plants

Hello, I hope I am posting this in the right place, I would appreciate your input, thank you.

I am using the water lines with a 5 gallon bucket, for my indoor plants when I go on vacation, the system with a timer is working great, but when I come back home after 10 or 15 days, the water still in the container is slimy.
Is there a way to avoid this? I am afraid with time the lines will get clogged.

That sounds like a good plan. I hope you have a good vacation. Algae needs sun to grow so if you block off the Sun the algae will not grow. I put lids on my rain barrows during the Spring and in the hot Summer drought 4 months later, the water is still pure and clean. Make sure you clean the bucket out with bleach water before you fill it to kill all the spores. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will follow your advice and clean the bucket first with the bleach water, then I will leave it covered, although indoors is not getting sun and the house is cool, but I will try as well.
