Whenever i mow my lawn i usually set aside some of the grass of finer texture to use as mulch on my plants in the garden. This is especially useful when we have long periods without rainfall as the process aids with conserving water in the soil...keeping it moist.

Do you do this as well?

I USED to use grass as a mulch but I quit because I hated moving great armfuls of damp, mowed up grass! But, it really was useful in keeping the weeds down, and I have decided to use it next year around my Peony's.

I love my Peony's because they make a huge splash of color very early in the year, but the grass and weeds hid under the foliage until they were large and hard to pull! So, I have decided to mulch them during the next growing season, as during the last summer they looked pretty rough by mid-summer.
