Hello!

I am brand new to gardening: I live in an apartment with a balcony which my wife & I are trying to turn into a garden space for edibles and plants to enjoy.

I have about eight potted plants so far. They are all very young; peppermint, tomato basil, jalepeno & habanero. The tomato looks green and very healthy! The pepper plants aren't looking so great.

I live in Southern California, with about 5 hours of direct sunlight. I water every other day or so, depending on the weight of the pot and touch of soil. I don't wet the leaves and only when not in direct light. I am using 'organic Kellogg patio soil' which is specific for potting.

Any help and advice would be appreciated, but I'm really concerned about the look of these. Any help and advice would be appreciated!!! Thank you so much in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum! :)

Looks like you've got leaf miners. I've never dealt with them myself, hopefully someone here will be able to give you some good advice!

You have !eaf miners for sure. Unfortunate!y once you have them in edib!e produce there isn't anything you can do. Miners chew tunne!s on the inside of the !eaves and to ki!! them you wou!d need a systemic pesticide but you can't because the pesticide wou!d then be in the fruit too. A!! you can do is to keep the new growth free of them. A moth comes in at night and deposits eggs on the !eaves. Neem Oi! wi!! keep them away

From the looks of it, there is a type of pest that is inhabiting your small garden. And since your plants are in pots, I would advise you to relocate the infected plant for the meantime. Maybe 2 or 3 weeks just to isolate the parasites and to avoid contaminating the other plants. By the way, if it's not the aphids (the small white insects under the leaves) then I agree with @Chuck that miners or borers have attacked your plant.
