I think this is a Texas Red Oak seedling that has grown in my yard. I don't have any oak trees, but I suppose a neighbor might. Any ideas? I'm in zone 8a.

Sure looks like one to me....but at this stage is difficult to distinguish between the Shumard Red oak. Either way you have a beautiful shade tree in the making there.

Thanks Meadowlark! I found it while watering my ornamental cabbages and was excited. Even placed some dried grass clipping around it. Hopefully it will survive to be a mature shade tree!
