Hello everyone,

My name is Udi Hess and I’m developing a new product in the gardening field called SeedSmart - a smart gardening system with advanced seed tapes.

I’m very interested in understanding the challenges you, as hobby gardeners, face during plant growth. Are there specific issues you encounter, such as uneven germination, weeds, or soil problems?

Would you be willing to share your experiences? Any feedback would be invaluable to me and help me create a solution that meets your needs.

Thank you so much!

Udi

Uneven germination...usually caused by uneven watering and/or uneven seed covering dept. Both are easily preventable.

Weeds...not a problem here. Extensive use of cover crops minimizes exposure of uncovered soil to weed seeds. Even large garden space can be weeded easily with stirrup hoe in just minutes.

Soil problems...not a problem due to techniques employed which promote healthy vibrant soil e.g. crop rotation, green manure application, chop and drop legumes. cover crops, generous composted cow manure amendments. My soil routinely tests out with a nutrient density score of over 90%.

If your new product comes in even more expensive than current seed tape products, I predict it will fail.

There are always some, Meadowlark. I see people buying individual, young vegetable plants for the price of 200 seeds of the same thing, but I don't think they are the people on the forum.
Hoe twice before sowing and weeds are minimal, and a lot of things I sow in weed free compost in a seed tray and plant out, that makes uneven germination irrelevant. I also save quite a lot of seed, keep it well and use it soon, no problems.
Soil problems that can be solved with a tape are going to be pretty minimal, most people here seem to recognise that building up the soil is a first, basic step.
