We have had our sweet potato slips in the ground 4-27-24 and now since we are under the storm of Debby (SC) we have had several days of heavy rain and flooding. The backyard garden has some areas of standing water / flooding and the sweet potatoes are one of those areas. I was going to leave them in the ground for a few more weeks just to let them get a touch bigger but now I am worried they may all "rot" in the ground with all the water. It may be several more days/week before the ground dries out.

Any thoughts from you experienced folks ?

You probably have well draining sandyish soil right? As long as they are not actually submerged in water (other than the ground being wet), they will probably be ok. If for some reason you have a high clay non-draining soil, then you may get some rot. If they are underwater, that isn't good for the taters or anything else you have growing.
