I have a bunch of scraps left of from cooking & don't want to throw them away so can I just grind them up & put it straight in to my garden ( I just have herbs right now) instead of doing the compost thing?

I assume you are talking about uncooked vegetable scraps. If you do this put them somewhere NOT close to your plants and it will decompose just like in a compost pile.

Excellent advice by Chuck. Do you have space to set up some sort of a small composte area because you really will be delighted with the benefits of it as will your plants.

Welcome to the forum kiki! (y)

I've heard of people putting kitchen scraps directly into the soil - I think it is called trench composting..? Sounds like it's worth a try if you don't want to go down the compost route.
