With out searching through the forum, has anyone witnessed the stalks on their tomatillo plants splitting open? This is my first time raising them and noticed it last week. Didn't seem to hurt them, but wondering if the recent rains we received was the cause.

Should I expect problems bc of this?

Thank you!

Nothing unusual. After a dry spell and then heavy rains very common. Hopefully the plant was in a cage. If not the limb will probably fall over on the ground and should be supported so it is off of the ground. Sometimes but not always a splint can be used. The main thing is not the split, it is keeping the fruits off of the ground.

I do have it caged, so that makes me feel good. I've had too many plants get blown over, so I've been caging all my peppers and tomatoes for several years now. I also didn't know, until yesterday when I had a video playing in the back ground, that you should have 2 tomatillos in order to get good pollination. makes sense, but when picking them up, I really never thought about it and glad I grabbed them both.

Thanks for the response!
