Specific Lawn Techniques?

I was curious to know if there are any specific things people do to make sure you have a lush green lawn? There have been times my lawn has had brown patches one day but after a good rain a few days later they disappear without needing to add anything to it.

We have a product in Australia called Seasol. I use this on everything in my garden but especially the lawn. It's a concentrate of seaweed and it can honestly bring death to life. I have never seen it anywhere else besides Australia though
