For many of us the new growing season is under way so I thought I'd start a thread where we can chat and show off our young plants. :)

These are some very young 'Pacific Coast' Irises that spent the winter stratifying outside and have recently been moved into my cold greenhouse to grow on. They are unlikely to grow true to their parent plant but it will be interesting to see the results when fully grown and flowering.

The five pence piece coin (5P) is a size guide but for those of you around the world this coin is 18 millimetres/0.7 of an inch in diameter.

JB....I love the true leaves on baby Lupins, they are so different to many other seedlings. :)

The leaves are my favorite part of Lupine! Most legumes seem to have really interesting leaves.

I live in New England, (CT). I have started some oinon seeds in my basement, temp in basement ranges from 50 to 60 degrees. I have the seedling in a self watering tray (Burpee) with 2 120-Watt Agro Plant Light BR40 Flood Light Bulb about 8 to 10 inches above the tray, on for about 12 to 14 hrs. I also have a Elfin Growth Durable Waterproof Seedling Heat Mat under the tray. I am using a small fan to circulate the air to help keep white, fluffy fungus from growing. My soil temp is about 60 digress. I would like to increase it to about 75 if I could. I would not like to put a cover over seedling tray as I think this will promote white, fluffy fungus. Any thoughts or ideas on how to rase the soil temp would be a great help. I was thinking of adding a fish tank heater to heat the water up in the tray, thought?

Yes it's one of the little 6' x 8' green houses from Harbor Freight. I made the rest of it all.

Do you have a nice sunny window space in your home? What you can do is move the tray to the sunny area, put a plastic green house cover over the tray. The water will naturally warm up and then at night put the Agro Plant Light over the tray.
