"Residents in Pennsylvania can now breathe a little bit easier since an illegal enterprise has been shut down.

The Joseph T. Simpson Public Library in Mechanicsburg was participating in an activity that put the entire ecosystem of the state at risk.

In an astonishing act of hubris, they were running a seed library, right there amongst the books, in the very facility where small children go to have stories read to them.

And did you hear about Agri-Business trying to buy up all heirloom seeds?

They'll have to pry my seeds from my cold dead hands. The only terrorists I can see live in luxury in Washngton D.C.

No I did not, but I am not surprised!

In the hundreds of years since those heirloom varieties were common some cross fertilization might have occurred! That means the strain might not be historically accurate and it might be BETTER for agri-business to buy it all to get it off of the market! It is lovely that agribusiness would spend millions to save us from ourselves, because it is BETTER that we only buy our seeds from them! The fact that it removes the competition is just a coincidence!

I cannot figure out why agribusiness does these things. Honestly, the competition from micro-farmers is insignificant, and yet the big companies get Congress to pass laws like the ones that shut down the seed bank. It also upsets me that Congress often supports them in their endeavors.

We in America have the best politicians money can buy. Simple as that

I can understand the need to protect the food supply from aggressive plants that will take over an area but this does seem like over kill and not the best use of government money. If people can still exchange seeds the danger has not been removed just the place the exchange was taking place has changed so what did all of this activity on the part of the government accomplish?

That is the whole point Pat. The government is starting to stop us the people from exchanging seeds so we will be dependent on them and their chosen few, like Monsanto. The governmant wants complete control of everything and little by little step by step it is doing just that.

Exactly! If the government has control of all the seeds, they will soon be all Monsanto seeds.

There's also a man in Oregon who got 30 days in jail for collecting rain water on his own property. It makes no sense!

It's too bad that Common Sense is already extinct. If it weren't the EPA would jump in to save it.

I find it amusing how the article is dripping with sarcasm. The line "In the very facility where small children go to have stories read to them" cracked me up.
They're acting like someone was selling drugs or something. I'm sure that people will find another way to exchange heirloom seeds.
