Sage is dying!

This is my first post, so I apologize if I'm not using this forum correctly!

I got this sage plant from Home Depot last fall. It was sitting outside and freezing, clearly about to die, so I figured I'd try taking it in and see if I could revive it. It didn't do too well during the winter, but it survived and is now growing new leaves.

As you can see, it's extremely woody and spindly. Is there any way to bring it back to health? I'm worried about trimming it because of its bareness. Would that help?

I will come back nicely with the right growing conditions. I would take it outside in a cool place with about 4 to 6 hrs full morning sun. Acclimate the plant slowly to the outdoors starting in a shade and move the plant into the sun a little each day. In about 10 days the plant should be used to the sun and live outside long enough to recover. After it recovers you can bring it back in full of leaves.
