I am in the middle of large house restoration. Its 100 years old and for the last 20 years has really been neglected. The front walls are shot due to the tree root damage from the Plane tree on the road(green).
The hedge is a yew and there is a gap between the wall and the hedge, its also quite dishevelled, this photo is a few year ago from google, its rear side is bare and brown.
My plan is to remove the wall and raise it to the height of the neighbours (blue lines). I then want to remove the yew hedge and plant something forward (closer to the wall so no gap, yellow), simliar to the neighbour on the right. What do people recommend to plant, the aim is to add privacy and security. We are in a heavy clay soil area and the drainge is currently poor which will will be adding addition drainage in.
