Hello all! I've made a profile here because I'd like to learn about indoor plant growth in preparation for next winter. I live in an apartment in Chicago IL, and our winters can be long, which means I value making a comfortable indoor space. I'm imagining I could grow a tree to introduce some green and fresh air.

My gardening experience is limited to basic herb growing as well as keeping some succulents on my desk. So I have a lot to learn. I can tend to fall deeply into hobbies - perhaps this will become one of the big ones :)

My first order of business will be to gather some information regarding grow lamps. From what I understand, it sounds like LED lights would fit my needs. Hopefully some research here will confirm or correct this.

Nice to be with you, thanks for having me!

Welcome!

I don't know much about growing under lights but since medical (cough) marijuana was declared legal here in Michigan grow shops have popped up on every other block here. I have pondered going in and checking out indoor growing set ups.

We love a block away from a popular gardening hub. Walking through their indoor fern room was fascinating!

I'm thinking maybe a lemon tree. What I've read says they need consistent light, and our apartment gets daaark in the winter time

Oh yeah, our Northern winters can be gloomy (summers too!) and you will for sure need some consistent light for a sun-loving tree such as lemon.

I'm finding some helpful threads on lampung Meyers lemons. I'm sure folks here have all sorts of firsthand experience
