I didn't notice a garden pond forum on the site , am I just over looking it ?. I have issues with alge, in fact it is the Bain of my existence , try as I might I can not get rid of it , drained it down 4 times and back it comes 2weeks later!!!. Tried all the chemicals natural and .... Let's say not so natural .... Nothing seems to work .... Is there a pump placement that is best ? .... Any pond experts out there ? .

Hi @lee hurn.

Head over to the sister site: http://www.gardenpondforum.com/
There are many members who can help you out better than I can.
Draining it won't make a difference. Algae uses up nutrients in the water, and the water you fill it with has tons of nutrients. I personally use a bog to filter my pond, and it has stayed crystal clear for two years now.

The sister pond site is very helpful#

I have a small still (no pump or filter) and no algae issues. However l have both perennial and annual pond plants and a few goldfish. That all works together to keep everything in balance and the water clear.

I have had a medium sized goldfish pond for several years. It has plants, a filter, a bubbler and it always remains a deep green. A long time ago, I researched what a healthy fish pond should look like, and it said to insert your arm into the water up to the elbow. If you can still clearly see your hand, the water is healthy. So, those are the instructions that I followed and my fish thrived with their green water. Don't be afraid to allow your pond to do what ponds just naturally do. Fish actually do like a little bit of funk in their water, they nibble on the algae as a supplement to their diet, plus the green helps to hide them from predators as well.
