Poinsettia for another season???

In the Spring I planted my Christmas gift of a small Poinsettia in my little garden
It has grown to 2 1/2 foot tall and beautiful!
If I dig it up before cold weather sets in, I need suggestions.
How big and deep are their roots?
How big should a container be to receive it?
I have planted them before, but NEVER had this kind of growth!

That has done well hasn't it? I don't know how much root it will have, but I suspect quite a lot. My approach would be a fork either side to take out as big a section as I could. If there were no sign of roots I could always take some earth off, but I couldn't get bigger than the largest I could manage.
It doesn't have to go in the container instantly if there is a fair size root ball. You would even have time to find something if your largest doesn't look adequate.

Thanks Oliver. I'm not at all new to this BUT I didn't know what to expect so far as root system. Gosh, I never expected it to get this size. Always before I just left them to winter weather. It is far to pretty to let it freeze.
