Hi. So I really don't know much about plants and as I was building a fence for a client I had to remove a little chestnut tree. He's only about 18" tall and has a few leaves. I felt bad and I brought him home and put him in a bucket with some solid from the site and some potting soil. I know I must have damaged the roots getting him out. He isn't looking too good but he is still hanging on.
Is there anything else I can do for him? What about drainage? Do I need to poke holes in the bucket?
Any help is much appreciated as I really don't know anything about plants.
Thanks!

Yes, put numerous 3/4" holes in bottom for drainage. I would also get a product called SuperThrive and use as directed.
