Is there a particular planting zone system that Germans use? ie USDA hardiness zones or climate zones?

What would be the most common practice used for Germans to know when to plant thing throughout the year?

Not that I'm aware of, being a large continental land mass USDA zones probably work well.

Same as the rest of the world, read the seed packets, listen to the weather forecast, assess the local conditions, read gardening magazines and last but not least common sense.
