hi all, i'm in upstate NY, 6b, still pretty cool here and maybe a little more frost before the warmup next month. i'd like to try my hand at garlic. i just got some nice big bulbs from walmart and wondering should i go straight into the ground now or do the vernalization thing for a month in the fridge first?

my feeling is supermarket garlic has already been in cold storage for months anyhow so not necessary and it would be good to get them in the ground so they can start growing ASAP. note that there is currently no sign of sprouting on the gloves.

what do you all think, into the ground or into the fridge? maybe half and half? thanks

Hi, I am in Southern England where my hardiness zone is around eight , I believe. I plant out in Autumn and my garlic are well advanced now, I'm not really the source you need. However, you mentioned that it is not sprouting which made me remember hearing something about supermarket garlic sometimes being treated with something to stop them sprouting so it increased their shelf life. Just a thought.
