Planting by the river

I live on a farm where a big river runs through it. Would it be good to plant peach and apple trees up on the bank of the river or near the river?

I've seen apple orchards, even a little water is constantly flowing through the apple orchards, as far as peaches are more capricious to look at, you have to experiment with them.
It is also important that the apple is resistant to disease, there are types of apple more difficult to grow such as Fuji, and easy to grow such as Golden delicious.
