Paprika Peppers

I love eating these and you can hardly find them in the stores. Chilli is popular but never Paprika. We got a plant and it has grown so well with at least a dozen Paprika peppers on them. They don't grow as big as I thought they would but they definitely taste maginificent in a salad or even fried! The plant continues to grow even once you have picked off the peppers!

I've been thinking about paprika and wondering what kind of peppers they come from. I love smoked paprika and I would really love to be able to make my own fresh at home. I always assumed it came from red bell pepper.

To be honest I had no idea there was a paprika pepper. I would love to try growing them this year.

Where did you source the seeds?

I was at my friend's house the other day, and I asked her to let me see her seeds, and she gave me some. The kind she had was Leutschauer paprika and it comes from Hungary. They sell it at Baker Creek: http://www.rareseeds.com/leutschauer-paprika-pepper/

I would really love to get some Spanish paprika seeds.

I bought it from a local nursery, I actually didn't think that it would grow but they have produced so many peppers already.

I was afraid of that. You can get a slight hint of bell pepper flavor from paprika some times. I don't think I could handle the smell if I had to roast them myself. I suppose I will have to continue to purchase it from the store like everyone else.
