Brought my olive tree in last week and have placed it in a south window fairly large window. It has dropped a few leaves on the floor is this normal that the plant knows its winter here in Illinois and is going into its dormant stage? Any advice / water once a week and make sure soil is dry first. Thanks

Your tree looks wonderfully healthy and yes the leaf drop is from the change in light and temperature. Keep it in that window and expect to water it less through the winter. Mainly it will depend on whether your heating source dries out the air or increases humidity. Keep an eye out for little pests that came in with it. Since you probably didn’t bring in their predators their population can explode quickly.

Thank you for your response. Just now figuring out to work this website. Yes the Olive tree is outside and doing beautiful. Whew !!! I was concerned there for a bit but now it is taking off with new sprouts all over on the branches and the the existing branches are bellowing new growth everywhere. I love this tree and the leaves makes me happy in the dark winter months...

Excellent!! Glad to know everything worked out. Getting olives in Illinois should be interesting! At least you'll have a green companion for the winter.

Happy Plant Parenting!
