hi there,
the trunk on this plant is getting old and i'm afraid it might die. is there any way to grow another plant from it?
i once had another (different kind of) plant that i cut a small stem from & put it in water for a while, then stuck it in dirt and it grew normally. just wondering if i can do that with this. i think this is some kind of cactus.

This is not a cactus. :) This Euphorbia trigona. Euphorbia - this heliophilous succulent. Optimally put the plant on the south or east window. It does not like a lot of water.
The plant is propagated by lateral shoots well.
Side shoots should be a little drier after separation from the large plants. While there is a period of adaptation, Euphorbia need to pritenyat from direct sunlight. Then, already became strong plants can be placed in a well-lighted place.
I think that your plant has not received sufficient light. It can be fixed. You can be moved to bright light and even trim. But the cut is better in the spring.

You can break off the side branch. Or cut off the upper part of the branch. The plant will allocate juice as milk. You can attach a cloth or rinse with water. Juice contains poison. It is better to wear gloves and wash your hands afterwards. Then, cutting plants should be dry (3-4 days). Then put into the ground (this is better) or put into the water.

I've been growing Euphorbia's for years and never tried to grow the cuttings in water I'll give it a try next time I start new cuttings. Thanks for the hint.
