Sharing this picture of the okra I harvested today. On the right is the okra my mom bought at the market. On the left is my harvest. I'm happy that my okra is way bigger than the commercial one. It's fertilizer and pesticide-free, too!

My Okra did very well this year. I forgot what type it is at the moment, I know it has ribs on it and is not smooth like yours. Ours did so well that quite a bit escaped notice and went beyond edible into hard pods. It's now happily drying in the hoop house.

Kudos! Congrats on your big success, I can tell you are a very daring girl! You plant all sorts of amazing things I'd never dare to plant, hehehe. How long did it take to harvest your okra?

Wow, your okra is so much bigger than the one from the store! It looks great. Congratulations!:D
What does okra taste like? I've never tried it. How do you eat it? Can you eat it raw? It reminds me of a cucumber, so I think I'd like it.

I'm really quite amazed, too by the speed okras grow! I planted this about only three months ago. Right now, they produce about five to eight okras per plant per week! I have so many okras now. LOL.

Many people don't find okras tasty because they are rather slimy on the inside. You can't eat them raw, I mean I never tried. I just steam or boil them. Sometimes, I add tomatoes for added flavor. They are very great with tamarind soup though. I also think that they are used in making gumbo.

I can't leave them alone when I am harvesting. I have to pop the smallest ones in my mouth and eat them before I get back in the house. Otherwise they can be pickled, frozen, or breaded and fried. They can be used to thicken soups too. They are very good in gumbo.

Omgg!!!!!!!! That sounds awesome!!!!!!!!!!! I love okras, sadly they don't sell them over here often, so I might need to plant my own, but not right now! What do you do with all your okras?? How do you prepare them??? I like to get mine breaded and then fried!!!!! Yummy!!!!!

Helagumamela - I've never eaten neither tamarind soup nor gumbo;) If okras are slimy, it's very possible that I wouldn't like them.
Trellum - I love breaded and fried vegetables! I often eat fried zucchini slices. They make a perfect snack.

I love the forums that talk about one of my favorite foods "fried okra". there are several ways to fix okra and you have mentioned some of them, another way is "pickled okra" i love it because it is very crunchy and flavorful. the next time you go grocery shopping look in the pickle section you might find some there. have a nice day.
