Picked a bit of Okra today. My climate area is marginal for growing okra. This was the first picking and the pods were very tough and fibrous. The pods must be picked when very young. It is Clemson Spineless. I put any pods found in the current juice being made.

I grew Clemson Spineless last year, but as you said there seemed to be a very short window of time to pick them...so I mostly just enjoyed the flowers. :)
Never thought of pickling them.

Hello from North Texas where every gardener raises okra. Yes you do need to pick it often to keep it producing and picl the 2-3" pods for tenderness. I love okra in just about any dish and recipe, and since okra is a hot weather plant here in North Texas it grows really well. About all you need to do here is "just watch it grow" and harvest. Have a good day.

Have you tried okra fries? There is one place near my home that sell fried okras and once in a while I have to get my craving satisfied. They are so good in gumbo too! I love how fresh yours are looking!

Yes IcyBC, fried okra especially some we eat at a restaurant here in denton, tx is delicious as it is on the buffet there all the time and is one of my favorite foods. I like it dipped in a corn meal batter and seasoned lightly with a spicy seasoning and kind of browned and crunchy, wow i may go get some tomorrow.
