Good afternoon:
I am new to this forum, as well as a senior who is relatively new to gardening, and live in Southern Ontario, in the GTA. I look forward to learning from being a member here.
We have a large back yard, by city standards, about 4000 sq.'. In the last two years, we have put in a native plant pollinator garden, as well as an enclosed, raised-bed veggie garden which we euphemistically call "the chicken coop".
I have questions about some of my flower bed plants; specifically about dahlias and my presently-blooming irises. I would love to keep the dahlias, but am not sure how far down to clip them before digging them up and putting them into peat/vermiculite in my cool pantry in the basement. Also, what shall I do with these crazy irises that are blooming now? Do I cut them back? Leave them? How will they get the "food" they need to be productive next year.
Thank you for allowing me into the group and I hope to get some answers before it's too late.
