hello all,

I have had a crepe myrtle growing in my backyard for about 4 years now. it was doing very well, doubling in size each year.

well philly had a really bad winter this year and now its half come back.

as you can see in the attached pics im not sure if i should cut the branches at this point, but you can see at the base i am getting growth at the bottom but not on top.

any help would be great as i dont want to lose it.

What it looks to me like is a little freeze damage and it will probably come back, give it time but to make sure scratch the bark and see if it is green underneath. If it is brown dry and brittle it is dead. If so remove them.

Your poor Myrtle! I agree with Chuck, best to only prune back dead wood. I think they can also be susceptible to wind damage, is it in a sheltered spot?
