We bought this grape vine last summer and had it planted in the planter box in our backyard. I didn't notice that it had grown fast (we forgot to build a trellis for it). I was advised in one forum not to build a trellis for a grape vine needs is just a post to cling on. Now that it has long vines already, we erected a sort of bar where the vine can cling and grow. And we have to trim the growth once it exceeds the pole.

Here is the pic of my grape vine...

I'm sure the grapevine will grab hold of everything in sight if it's anything like my ornamental grape which too is setting off, not long like yours Corzhens as I cut it right back but lots of shots and little "grapes". Don't know why I didn't try a real grape vine. I was impressed by my friends due to the Autumn colours and copied her. You'll enjoy the grapes off your vine I'm sure. Do you know if they are green or purple grapes? Either would be lovely.;)

My neighbor used to have an immense grape vine that was starting to peek into our side of the fence :) It was gorgeous! They can get really bushy and kind of invasive if you aren't careful. Sadly this didn't last for too long, I'm not sure if the plant died or if they removed it on purpose (the removed a whole pecan tree just some years ago). Best of luck with your vine, I hope it bears a lot fruits :)

I remembered before when I was still in high school we had tried to grow seeds of grapes in one side of our garden which was given by a certain friend of my father. In fact my father had built vines that are thick enough for the grapes to hang on while it is already growing. I remembered we harvested three times and the grape fruits taste sweet. After that the plant slowly died and we do not anymore plant it again. But it is a nice experience that we had grown that kind of plant because it is not that easy.

I grew up in Ballarat, a gold mining historical town in mid Victoria. Family friends have a beautiful old home which has a grape vine growing around the wrought iron eaves of the verandah which surrounds the house. I used to visit there in the 1960's, make that 1959 and I still visit and the vine is still there. Lovely memories....9 children and I am friends with the oldest, my sister with the 5th. When ever I go to Ballarat as my sister lives in a town nearby, well town is probably pushing it, blink and you'd miss it, we visit the parents who are in their 80's and terrific company. Chin chin....purely medicinal purposes;)

Your grape vine will grow on the wall of your house if your no careful, the don't need a trellis just some thing for it to grab on to, give it lots of water and sun and you will have more grapes than you can eat.

Watering your grape plant is very important and giving it room to run along a long pole is all you need to have a good harvest of grapes. Good Luck.
