My cat has had a bad habit of laying on the ledge of the 2nd floor staircase recently and today she fell off and landed at the bottom of the stairs. While she was falling I tried to run over and catch her as I saw the orange mass out of the corner of my eye, but I could not get to her in time. She seems to be ok, but she fell over 10 feet. Is there anything I should be looking for behavior wise that would indicate something is wrong with her? I have been monitoring her this afternoon and she is acting as normal as I can tell. It scared the daylights out of me!

Rosy, cats practice that maneuver just to get our hearts racing! A 10 ft. fall shouldn't have hurt her, but see if she limps, is off her feed, or seems listless. If she has any or all of those symptoms, get her to the vet for a check-up.
We have a 14 year-old Calico who regularly makes us worry. Note that she is 14, healthy, and has both of us and her vet wrapped around her little paw.
I love that you are so concerned and have been monitoring her all afternoon. I bet she loved it!

Oh she is OK. Cats are very good with high jumps and falls. If she is up and walking around she's OK. There is no need to worry. I've seen cats drop from higher then 10 feet and be just fine. My cats do it all the time.

She turned out to be just fine, she was running around and playing all evening. I think she was trying to play the sympathy card with my husband though last night so that she could curl up with him on the blanket he was wrapped up in. It scared me so much when I saw her fall. Good to know my cat is not the only one though!

Rosy, I have often thought there ought to be a support group for cat owners. We could get together, discuss our cats' demands, exchange "cat stories", and gain sympathy for all that our cats put us through!
I'm so happy to hear that she was fine, and just doing a cat thing with the sympathy card. Our cat has a full deck of those cards, and plays them regularly!

That is such a good idea marlingardener, I like the thought of a cat owner support group. My cat scares me more than my kids do and that is shocking.

Yesterday when I looked out the window to check the weather, I saw our neighbor’s cat taking a nap in the balcony of their 2nd floor. I stood there just watching in awe and I think somehow I cringe at the thought of the cat accidentally falling but then as I observe, he was so calm and obviously enjoys his alone time in the balcony.
