We bought this house and the person who lived here before was a Master Gardener and this was her life. Me, not so much. I had this large area where there once was a tree the whole area is mulched we did that but then it's full of weeds. I don't allow Roundup or any other herbicide. I tried organic ones which are basically vinegar yeah that didn't work it kills them temporarily but then they come back with a vengeance. I do not want to be on my hands and knees pulling weeds all summer. Anybody have any suggestions. We did spend the money and mulch all her flower beds and that area but it wasn't enough.

Those weeds are getting tall, you don't want them spreading seeds. My answer to not using chemicals is a hoe. Fifteen mins once a week will keep an area like that clean because after the first week you are knocking over two leaf seedlings, which is quick and easy. When you have plants in it takes a little longer working around them, and you may take out one or two of your own plants at first where weeds grow up close to them, but it is not a difficult skill to acquire. I prefer a draw hoe to a Dutch hoe, but it is a matter of choice, both work the same way cutting the weeds at ground level or just below.

I prefer a Hula Hoe as it cuts in both directions, push and pull and not much work at all. That area would make a great veggie garden with minimal work.
