I have a Meyer lemon tree very small. (2 feet). In a very big pot so no issues there. I have new growth that's bright green and great on one side, on the other side of the y the leaves shriveled up and died off. I don't know what could cause half of it to thrive and the other half to be dying.

Greetings, welcome to the Forums.

Interesting, it could be a disease or an injury. Examine the the tree for any unusual signs or symptoms. Photograph the entire tree. Also take close-up shots of the withered leaves and branchesas well as anything else that seems unusual.

Check for leaf miners. You can tell if leaf miners have invaded your tree by looking at the shrivelled up leaves. If there’s white squiggly lines running through the inside of the leaf, it might be leaf miners. You can treat leaf miners with neem oil. They can be quite a pest on young citrus trees, as the leaf falls off and stunts growth.

I know of four things that can cause this. Root damage, too much water too often and a sudden dramatic change of environment and/or light conditions.

I probably have the miners. There are little spider web looking things every now and then. I'm still not sure on the watering. Every 2 weeks, but I soak it really good when I do. If someone can tell from the leaves if I am over or under watering would be great.

The name for this condition is Twig Dieback but that only describes a symptom, it does not determine the cause.

One possible cause for this is Anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides). The best treatment for this is pruning and sanitation. Remove the dead branch. Do this by pruning into healthy wood. Sterilize the tool between cuts.
Even if the cause is not Anthracnose, removal of the dead wood is still necessary and good sanitation.

Leafminers are small caterpillars (Microlepidoptera) that feed inside leaves, making maze-like patterns on leaves as they do so. The would not cause an entire branch to die.

I took off the dead part, what should I do about this part. The top is green and flowering and healthy,. But the branch going to it looks messed up.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that stem is dying too. Look at the spot just below the green where the stem is literally bursting open. That is interesting. I would cut that stem off and do an autopsy on the part of the stem that is slitting open. Tell us if there is anything interesting inside.

If not already, clean a pair of good garden clippers and remove all the diseased branches, leaves, etc. - throw them away.
From the photos, appears to potentially be fungal in nature. Let us know how it's going with your plant.

Sounds dumb, but is there something i should do, i had a tree that was a Y, had to cut one whole side off because it was dead. So now my lemon tree is just one straight shoot. Do i have to do something to it to make it start to spread out, instead of just 1 branch straight up.
