I want to trellis some watermelons and cantaloupes this summer.

I have 7’ t posts and 4’ welded wire (4”x2” grid maybe) on hand, so I’m hoping to use that unless I will regret it later.

1. Bed is 50’ long. Suggestions for t post spacing.
2. Once in ground t posts will be ~6’ high. Can I put the 4’ high wire at the top and train melons up that 2’ gap between ground and wire? If not what is an acceptable gap?
3. Are zip ties really ok for attaching the wire to the posts? Is using a single strand of wire like a giant twisty tie a better plan?

Thanks!
