Recently, I came to know about house plant called lucky bamboo. Even though it looks like a small version of bamboo and is called bamboo, it is not a bamboo species. Has anyone grown lucky bamboo? How do we grow bamboo?
I have not heard of lucky bamboo. I am familiar with other bamboo species which grow in clumps. I am particularly enthralled by the giant bamboo species which grows in forests and is increasingly being domesticated. It grows by as much as a centimetre a day (or so). Bamboo agronomy is not complicated and requires one to cut out a clump with its roots and then plant it. They don't require pesticides or fertilizers.
Lucky Bamboo is Dracena Sandera.
I've never tried to grow it, but I have Dracena Marginata and it's a really great plant. It doesn't need anything special. I water it once a week, that's all. As far as I know, bamboo should be watered much more often.
I grow it ...it's very easy! You can do it in a pot of soil or just a vase of water... mine is in water, I use filtered room temp water for it. Fertilize occasionally very lightly.
