Is there a variety of watermelon that does well with limited sunshine? Like the Shady Lady variety of tomatoes that can produce well with something like five or six hours of sunlight a day? I'm particularly thinking along the lines of an icebox watermelon along the lines of a Sugar Baby size that I can grow in grow bags.

Limited sunshine together with grow bags will significantly reduce your chances of producing watermelons.

Crimson sweet has been reported to be adaptable to reduced sunshine, but I can't confirm.

I too was thinking maybe a small watermelon may work but I don't know. I do have better luck with Crimson Sweet than I do with Sugar Babies for some reason even though they are about the same size so try Crimson Sweet.

At your kind suggestions, I’m trying my hand at growing Crimson Sweet watermelons in my grow bag garden this season. I’ll report back in the fall with hopefully tales o’ sweet success. 😊

In my experience mellons and squash really don't like their roots crowded, or too much shade. They know when you have them in a container and they barely produce fruit if at all. They like being inground. I know that I have been unsuccessful with crimson sweet & sugar baby growing large enough to fruit in dappled shade under the oaks here & indoors under the grow lights in large containers. They sprout & grow, but the vines are measly. They did flower, but no fruit.
