Hi I recently got TruGreen to service my trees last week and noticed yesterday that several of them are turning black at the bottom. Could this be fertilizer burn from the liquid fertilizer or is there another issue going on?

Welcome Richard. :)

It could well be fertiliser damage but to be on the safe side take a look at a thread I started a while back. Ignore the bagworms and go to post #16.

Nothing to worry about at this time because your Leyland Cypress looks super good. There will be a little leaf drop on the bottom from time to time but nothing to worry about. I don't recommend using LIQUID fertilizer on your Cypress because of their slow growth. However applying a small amount of 8 to 9-month or a 12 to 14-month slow-release fertilizer in early spring will give your Leyland cypress all the nutrients it needs for one year.

I would notify the company and see if you can get a technician or supervisor out to look at the trees. That way you are covered if the trees take a turn for the worse.

I agree with Silentrunning, they should send someone out to look at it. It looks like they used a fertilizer that doesn’t dissolve and it is some kind of residue on the foliage. It should wash off and the trees will be none the worse.
Leyland Cypress usually grows pretty fast and yours look real healthy so you shouldn’t need to feed them much. Could they have used a micronutrient supplement? They can leave a deposit sometimes.
