I never fall for all those super annoying commercials promoting fake artificial scents in my clothing. Basically all they do is fill up the fabrics with chemicals that aren't good for your body and cover up other scents that you don't want in your clothes. I live in the country and use a clothes line all summer long and you can't beat the natural scent of the great outdoors on your clothing and bedding. I also use vinegar in the rinse cycle which not only eliminates odors but also softens clothes naturally and helps remove left over detergent in the fabrics. I also use far less detergents with added scents and add 1/2 cup of washing soda and oxyclean to my wash. Works great.
Smitty55 You are my kind of people. All of us at my house use the most enviro, unscented laundry soap we can find. Sometimes we buy 7th Generation, the one with lavender scent --- but we line dry everything, too, so our clothes never reek of all of that chemical junk.
I love to ride my bike and take long walks. It is amazing how many people you can smell ---- at quite some distance ---- coming and going, due to the gawd-awful chemical-laden laundry soaps they use: Tide, Gain and such. It's baffling to me how anyone can stand wearing clothes drenched in those perfumey scents. It certainly is unhealthy. Our family never uses any kind of dryer sheets, either. We stopped using those WAY before studies came out telling people fabric softeners and scented dryer sheets are bad for one's health:
"Fabric softener coats clothes with many harmful chemicals, including one called QUATS (quaternary ammonium compounds) which is linked to asthma. " (source:
