These are the products that are like Downy Unstoppables and Purex Crystals - you know the ones. So I used some of these in a wash cycle on the cold setting. I only put just a wee little bit, and my goodness, they gummed up all the clothes I had in the wash without fully dissolving! Is there actually any way to use these on the cold setting without this ever happening?! Note to self, never use scent booster beads on cold!

I never fall for all those super annoying commercials promoting fake artificial scents in my clothing. Basically all they do is fill up the fabrics with chemicals that aren't good for your body and cover up other scents that you don't want in your clothes. I live in the country and use a clothes line all summer long and you can't beat the natural scent of the great outdoors on your clothing and bedding. I also use vinegar in the rinse cycle which not only eliminates odors but also softens clothes naturally and helps remove left over detergent in the fabrics. I also use far less detergents with added scents and add 1/2 cup of washing soda and oxyclean to my wash. Works great.

Smitty55 You are my kind of people. All of us at my house use the most enviro, unscented laundry soap we can find. Sometimes we buy 7th Generation, the one with lavender scent --- but we line dry everything, too, so our clothes never reek of all of that chemical junk.

I love to ride my bike and take long walks. It is amazing how many people you can smell ---- at quite some distance ---- coming and going, due to the gawd-awful chemical-laden laundry soaps they use: Tide, Gain and such. It's baffling to me how anyone can stand wearing clothes drenched in those perfumey scents. It certainly is unhealthy. Our family never uses any kind of dryer sheets, either. We stopped using those WAY before studies came out telling people fabric softeners and scented dryer sheets are bad for one's health:

"Fabric softener coats clothes with many harmful chemicals, including one called QUATS (quaternary ammonium compounds) which is linked to asthma. " (source: ackermancancercenter.com)

We live in the South of England, not noted for fine weather, and my missus uses a line all year round. She checks the forecast before she washes, and keeps a sharp eye on the weather when they are out, but it can be made to work, and like you say smells better than anything artificial. We do have a tumble dryer, it gets used about twice a year if we want something quickly or to set waterproofing.

I line dry also and I don't use fabric softener or scents. When you don't use fabric softener you don't have to exfoliate your skin, the fabric does it for you !!😄

I find the vinegar in the rinse cycle does a pretty good job of that, clothes aren't stiff at all.

Scent booster beads can be used on cold water, but it's important to use them sparingly and to make sure that they dissolve completely before adding your clothes.

That won't work on newer HE models as all the clothes are added first and then the door is closed before starting the cycle.
