As you can see from my username, I love kale!
I have just recently started a garden and its obviously not at a wonderful time of the year with the winter coming up. So far all thats in my garden is some kale and lettuce. My lettuce is almost dead, but the kale is doing surprisingly well! I am concerned about whether or not it will last the northwest winter though. What can I do to prolong its life as well? Thanks in advanced!

By northwest do you mean Washington/Oregon or Montana/Wyoming? You shouldn't have any problem at all growing Kale and other vegs like broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts, spinach and lettuce in the Washington area. Montana gets really cold so you might have a problem in that area. It just depends on where you are located

I think it will be fine at least for a while. Kale is often grown really late in the season, it's kind of a winter thing in a sense.

My kale will survive several episodes in the 20's: kale and beets are VERY hardy!

Your vegetables will be even hardier if you cover them with sheets of plastic. I like to cover mine with 3 sheets of plastic, so that there is a dead air space between them to insulate things better.

I'm in Washington. The plant cashier made it seem like it was going to die for sure this winter. Its good to know I at least have a chance!

Thank you for the advice! I think I am going to try that this winter! It probably works the same as a greenhouse huh?

Water your plants with compost tea that has molasses in it. It will give you a little bit more cold protection
