Good afternoon -

I planted a couple of Japanese maples in my front yard a few weeks ago here in North Texas. I haven’t had to water them since we’ve had regular rain since I planted them.

Today I noticed some spotting and withering on some of the leaves. Does anyone know what might be causing this and what might help solve it?

See pic(s)for details.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum :)

Do you know which variety it is? They can be pretty fussy, and dappled light tends to be best - too much sun can result in leaf scorch, which might be the cause of those spots. The more you can tell us about it the better.

It looks dry. When did you last check the ph of the soil? Believe it or not, balanced soil helps retain moisture because the overall growth of all plants in the area is improved.

Looks like Wind Burn to me...consider moving them to a much sheltered spot out of the breeze and into dappled sunshine if possible.

Good advice and suggestions above. Also don't be tempted to fertilise it - they don't like that at all!
