I thought 'Frost in Missouri?' and looked up your weather, it says -12C, that's cold. You must spend a fortune on fuel to keep your greenhouse a 20C. Could you possibly make growing winter veg. for sale pay?

Perhaps if you did something that was quick and didn't take too much space, like small trays of salad leaves?

New morning not real good but wait and see the sun is going to shine some today but the Greenhouse is down to 37F but this is supposed to be coldest it's going to get in this stretch.

I'm going to sell Tomato, Pepper and Cabbage Seedlings this Spring.

Just went out and checked the older plants are not happy but I think going to be ok.

Seedlings were very unhappy so turned their Heat Mat on.

Heat I was told by another with Greenhouse and Propane business not to use Propane but Google and their saying Propane is ok. One guy says what if Electric goes off? You stand a chance of losing plants.

So I'm considering Propane.

Thoughts?

If I had a house that size I'd put a double glazed box along the bottom of the south side with a copper pipe painted matt black in it feeding a big tank in the greenhouse by convection. It wouldn't do everything, but it would be a lot of free background heat.

Hello Rockpile.
Can I ask a few questions without offending you?

How do you rate your gardening experience?
What are the dimensions of your greenhouse?
Is it wood or aluminium framed?
Glass or glass substitute?
Does the glazing go to the ground, or is the lower height, ground to bench height boarded/bricked?
Do you really need to grow stuff during the winter period?

My brother built a box like I described about five foot long, it heated his hot water tank in the house even on dull days.
The other thing, bubble wrap along the North side keeps my greenhouse much warmer in winter.

I have Black Barrels with water in them to help with heat. Need a thousand gallons of water to heat but I fall well short of that. Plus it has been cloudy since I put them in so they have not heated up.
