Hi all, first time here. Trying to maintain my yard and it’s tough. Backyard has always had a few skinny prickly sprouts but the last year they have gone crazy. They stick out at worst about a foot and a half up(the bright green) but the root system attached can be over 10 feet long and it rips up my grass getting it out. Neighbors don’t have this. Incredibly frustrating. Does anyone have any idea what these are and or how to get rid of them. They are getting out of control. And yes I know my yard looks awful. Trying to regain control and these are making it impossible. Front yard looks good though!
Thank you I’m advance!

Not sure which plant that is, but perhaps some brush killer applied to the visible part of the plant could make it an easier process. Some successful and aggressive weeds have hard to kill roots, because they filter and sacrifice root parts at junctions where the hormones must get through to do the overall killing. If the plant can be identified, this helps in learning which chemistry works best.

Go get a product called Cut Vine And Stump Killer. Its active ingredient is triclopyr. Cut the little tree down and apply a few drops to the stump. I don't know what kind of plant this is but it appears to sprout from underground roots. This is a systemic product that goes into the roots, all of the roots, and kills them. For a strong chemical this is a fairly safe one as it isn't applied to the soil and its half life is also short.

I also found these at one point don’t know if they are related but can’t figure out what they are. They were buried close to the root and google didn’t help. Sorry I know so little. First time with my own yard

All I can say about the plant is that it grows from runners/underground roots and that the Cut Vine And Stump Killer with get rid of it. Both Bonide and Fertilome sell it.

I have no idea what they are but they look just like little carved squirrel heads. Crack one of them open and see what's inside. If they weren't attached to a root I have no idea what they are but if they were attached it's a tuber and the Cut Vine stuff will still work.
