I live in Western New York, Region 6b. How to reseed an area too large to cover with burlap?

I have had fairly good luck with reseeding bare spots small enough to stake down burlap to protect the seed and the topsoil from birds and squirrels. What can I do with an area quite a bit larger? As you can see from the photo, I can't imagine having to cover this large an area with burlap but maybe I'm wrong. Any experience with this?

I would take a heavy grass rake and scuff up the ground to allow the seed to come in contact with the soil. Use a fertilizer spreader and broadcast your seed in both directions similar to mowing. When I seeded yards I mixed cornmeal with the seed to give me more volume. I would take a pound of grass seed and mix with a pound of cornmeal and get more spread that way. You will need to get enough seed for your lawn and the birds too. You can repeat as necessary until you get the grass growing.

Heres a problem when seeding lawns, grass doesn't grow well under the shade and if the seeds are heavily shaded the grass will lose its vigor and die. Good luck and keep us posted.
